Poor Internet Can Cost You As Much As 20% Of Your Value
How important is internet access when buying a property? I’d say VERY VERY important! Almost as important as water, power and transport.
Think about it.
I work from home a minimum of two or three days a week as a lot of you probably do.
I don’t have a traditional landline phone I use an internet phone so I don’t get phone bills.
All my children need internet access every night for their homework. They don’t even submit hard copy assignments anymore it is all done electronically.

A comprehensive report carried out by the London School of Economics used 15 years of data to examine the impact broadband had on house prices. This showed that on average house prices increased by 3% when broadband speeds doubled. And a study from 2014 suggested that slow broadband could knock as much as 20% off the value of a home. You see what you need to know are two things’
- How far am I from the node?
- How many people are using the same bit of wire and the same node?
The issue with question one is that if you’re anymore than about 200 metres of copper wire from the node you can forget about high speeds.
Oh, and remember, that is how far the wire runs the node could be across the street but you could be on the end of the line.
The second one is because the more people on the line the slower it will be.
